Self-care – Yes, self care. We have all heard the advice when on an airplane about putting the mask on ourselves first. We will be better at what we do no matter what that is if we take care of ourselves first. It isn’t being selfish it is being smart and practical. Adequate sleep, good nutrition, sufficient exercise and hydration, balance in work and relaxation are all ingredients essential to good health.

Take time for yourself, even if 20 minutes each day. That may be a bubble bath, listening to your favorite kind of music, read a book, practice yoga, stretch, be still and listen to the quiet. Take a deep breath and exhale slowly.

As you do these things don’t forget to turn off your cell phone and defuse any stress you may have. A cup of hot herbal tea or a glass of water, a scented candle are a nice added touch. For the muscle aches, you may add 2 cups of Epsom salts to the bath water. This calms the nervous system.

Don’t forget your largest organ – your skin. Apply a moisturizer following your soak. Body brushing is relaxing and removes dry, dead skin cells.

Keep in mind you will be a happier spouse, parent, employee or employer after putting yourself first, if even for 20 to 30 minutes daily.
