Mary Alice Thompson is the owner/operator of the Heart Wood Place. A wellness based retreat center that focused on the entire person, was her dream that became reality in Heart Wood Place. Mary Alice had worked as a nurse for over 30 years when she decided she was ready for something more. She wanted to be on the wellness and prevention end of health care. It was then in 1988 that she enrolled at the Health Enrichment Center's School of Therapeutic Massage. In June of 1989 she received her certificate as a certified Massage Therapist. While still working part-time as a nurse she began to build a massage clientele out of her home. As her clientele grew she quit her nursing job and put an addition on their home to accommodate her growing business. Shortly there after the idea of :Heart Wood Place" encompassed her thoughts and dreams. She knew exactly what she wanted from the building layout, to expand her services and adding a Bed & Breakfast to her repertoire. Months of planning were completed and Heart Wood Place was open for business in December of 1995. Mary Alice wears a great multitude of hats within her business and community. She works very hard, but finds the rewards of a successful business, that positively touches the lives of so many people.
