Visit Southeastern Michigan for Vacation Time

Nearly everyone has seen the Pure Michigan ads and have given thought to vacation plans. Consider Southeast Michigan and Lenawee County. Visit our lakes, parks, college campuses, golf courses, restaurants, lodging, wineries and more.

Book your room here at Heart Wood Place and plan your days to include antique shopping and wine tasting at one of our local wineries. Michigan grown grapes are used in these fine wines.

The Flying Otter Vineyard and Winery has live music and tasting on Friday nights.

The J. Trees Cellars has live music and tasting on Saturday nights.

Pentamere Winery is open Tuesday thru Sunday.

Supporting Michigan business and products is helpful for all of us! Anywhere where you can have fun at the same time is a bonus. Get your map out and plan your summer vacation, be it a long weekend or a week, and enjoy the water and all we have to offer.

New Look at our Bed and Breakfast!

Friday, June 21st marked the start of summer, so one might think spring cleaning and planting is completed.

Here at Heart Wood place we have a fresh new look to our entry and four rooms. We have COLOR! After all the years of white walls we now have vibrant color to enjoy.

Once again, I supported local businesses in my paint purchase and local labor. My lovely oak woodwork pops out and folks with appreciation for wood agree.

As I am out and about, I smile and admire the beauty of yards and flower gardens that people have nurtured. The rains and sunshine that God has provided gives us enhanced beauty to our homes.

Here’s a quick photo of our new entry – visit us to see the other updates!

We Are Preparing for Bed and Breakfast Summer Visitors

Sunrises come and sunsets go, trees become green, lawns get mowed and school years come to an end. Graduation and wedding invitations are found in our mailboxes and we begin to think about vacations and family reunions.

Here at Heart Wood Place Bed & Breakfast, we are excited about the season change and all that accompanies that, including our new, fresh look as you enter the front door! The white walls have been replaced with bold, cheerful colors to welcome you. I am feeling like I’ve had a B12 shot as I select new wall accents to complete our new look.

Of course, the deck and front porch still await your arrival, whether it be for an afternoon or for a few days’ visit as you vacation or attend an event in Lenawee County.

The Croswell has a wonderful summer season for all to enjoy and many parks are ready for your walk through or a picnic. The bike trail provides a great surface for a walk and conversation with family and friends.

Springtime Tune-ups to Improve Our Health

Look outside and you will see trees budding, flowers blooming, golfers swinging, grills being used – all signs that spring has sprung! Yards being manicured, windows washed and fresh paint where needed. Let’s think about cleaning, refreshing and “fixing up” our bodies that need a tune-up. All of us can use some cleansing and rejuvenating.

Leaving the regional meeting for Nature’s Sunshine Products has me thinking how so many folks could benefit from reviewing their health and wellness program. Let’s be reminded how very essential proper hydration is. Water, water, water – for a boost, add some Solstic Energy to your water bottle. Or, to discourage some of those cravings mid-afternoon that are added calories, put some Stixated™ in your water. You haven’t heard of Stixated™ before? It is a delicious, berry-flavored drink mix to help curb your appetite between meals.

Supporting your body’s immune, circulatory and glandular system would be a great step toward better health. Curcumin, a potent antioxidant, supports a healthy inflammatory response and may assist with weight loss as well as support the skeletal, circulatory, digestive and immune systems.

Being healthy and feeling vibrant is our individual responsibility and one we deserve and can work toward by taking the first step. Nature’s Sunshine Products is a company of integrity that has focused on better health for 41 years.

I would be happy to have a conversation with you about improving your well being! Call me and we will establish a time.

Helping Elders Stay Healthy

During my 28 years employed as a nurse, many of those were working with the elder population. In those many years, I observed the lack of hydration, decline in socialization, less activity, many medications and in many cases, poor nutrition.

With recent changes in health care, I have to wonder about the body, mind, and spirit wellness of our elderly population. I also remind myself that even though I don’t like to admit it, I am a member of that population!

For yourself, or for the elder family member or friend, please consider the following:

  • Do not use throw rugs or area rugs.
  • Use non-skid tape runners in the shower and bathtub
  • Use nightlights in the hallways and dark areas for getting up at night
  • Call these folks to say Hello and offer to shop for them
  • Perhaps some of these folks have had to give up attending a place of worship and would like to go
  • A social visit would be great!
  • Often, these folks no longer bake or cook as they used to, so a small loaf of banana bread, jar of homemade jam of ½ dozen cookies would bring a smile to their face
  • Drop them a note recalling an event of the past. Thank them for a kindness they showed you in the past.

The health of one’s spirit is as important as the body and mind. Lift someone’s spirit by showing them you care.
